What keeps you grounded?
My mother always raised me under the direction of being humble in all things that I do because it could all be taken aware in a blink of an eye. I have always navigated life under the pretense that I am owed nothing in life and for every opportunity that is given to me, I must be willing and ready to give even more to the next person. "To whom much is given, much is required" is a bible verse that I love, because of the message of selflessness and servitude. My faith in God has and always will keep me grounded. I try my very best to live accordingly to the principles of being a good and just person. There are times when I am left with nothing but my faith to get me through tough and difficult times, and it has not steered me wrong yet! I have used my faith as a testimony to others of what is possible, regardless of their prescribed religion or religious practices. I believe that I am on this earth to be a vessel for others to experience hope, love and joy in an authentic way. Accepting this calling is the very thing that keeps me "grounded"
What are your thoughts about balance?
I believe that balance is a myth. I would rather operate under the idea that I prioritize the things that are most important to me in life. I say yes to the things that bring me joy and no to the things that cause me angst, pain and unrest. If we can work to prioritize things in life, I believe we are able to make room for what we want to do and the experiences that we want to have.
What’s your superpower?
I believe that my superpower is convening and connecting people from diverse backgrounds to each other in order to help them realize their intrinsic ability to succeed. It took me a while to understand and believe this for myself. Childhood trauma of bullying caused me to have very toxic ideas in my head about who I was and could be. I am well past that stage now and I believe that my hurt and sorrow has given me the power I need to make progress. I used to think that my journey of self-discovery was for my own benefit, but I eventually realized that my story is just a testimony for others to find promise in.
Tell me about your relationship with fear.
My relationship with fear is an ongoing battle within myself to overcome the falsities I have convinced myself of over the years. I am determined to reframe and redirect my relationship with fear. I like to explain fear as False Evidence Appearing Real (F.E.A.R.). When I heard that acronym for the first time, it blew my mind. I found it to be so powerful yet so foreign and unbelievable. I've had to heal my mind and soul from self-inflicted hatred due to F.E.A.R. and now, more than ever, I am determined to move closer and closer to a life where F.E.A.R. does not cripple me and my progress.
What do you think women are craving (besides chocolate)?
I believe that women are craving equity. Equity in pay, equity in treatment by society and equity in expectations when it comes to our male counterparts. The disparity that exists between men and women creates this facade of being perfect in all things we do. It is not possible and the pressure of thinking that it is, is extremely damaging and toxic to our overall wellbeing.
In what way(s) do you empower yourself? Others?
I empower myself through intentional personal development work and by surrounding myself with people (women in particular) who want to see me grow and accomplish great things. I've given myself permission to prioritize my needs and well-being over what others have expected from me and I am VERY diligent in making sure my space is protected from negative energy. I empower others by providing spaces and opportunity for relationships to be fostered, and intentional personal development to be a priority. I am fortunate that my calling of empowering others is being actualized through my business Alma & Eva. We focus on helping women overcoming F.E.A.R. in order to live a more fulfilled and abundant life. This mission is enacted through intentional personal development seminars and summits as well as various networking opportunities that encourage authentic encounters and deep reflection about the importance of self-care.
What is the biggest myths that keeps women stuck?
The need to be all things to all people. This idea keeps us in a place where we are trying to operate under perfection which cause immense amounts and pressure and stress. We have to let go of putting the expectations of others before the need to take care of ourselves.
What’s your go-to phrase/mantra for empowering yourself?
No F.E.A.R. Just Progress
What are you working on now that thrills you the most?
I am currently developing more intentional opportunities for women to explore authenticity with themselves and others through my personal development business. Alma & Eva has several projects underway that will tap into the ability to connect deeply with women in a spiritual and intellectual way. This includes sessions specifically for mothers, entrepreneurs and young teen girls.
What would others be surprised to know about you?
I am an introvert. I like to refer to myself as being an outgoing introvert. I get energy when I am around people, but I have a DEEP need to go and refuel by myself.
**Hey locals! For the second consecutive year, Alma & Eva is hosting the Passion & Purpose in Action Women’s Empowerment Summit in June 29, 2019.
